The fifth annual Cockington Christmas Caper took place on Saturday 5th December 2009.  The event was yet again enjoyed by many, even those caked in mud!  Look out for details of the 2010 event...

Fun was had by all on Thursday 19 March 2009 thanks to The Barnabas Sports Trust organising yet another successful event. Held at No 10s Restaurant and Gull's Nest at Torquay United, ten teams took part in a sports quiz, auction and carvery.

Teams took part in seven rounds of sports related questions including General Sports Knowledge, Who Were the Runners Up? and Name That Tune.

The winning team were Dream Team consisting of Torquay United staff including Chief Executive Colin Lee and Youth Manager Paul Compton.

The quiz was broken up with a carvery dinner and auction. The auction was generously supported by Torquay United FC, Exeter City FC, Exeter Chiefs and Torbay Olympic Gymnastics Club.

Everyone got into the spirit of the evening which was both enjoyable and beneficial in raising much needed funds for The Barnabas Sports Trust.

The Barnabas Sports Trust is a registered local Christian sports charity with a remit to make sport available to all. The Trust runs a Brazilian soccer school, has a successful table tennis team in a local league and organises the annual Cockington Christmas Caper. In addition to this they organise sports quizzes, help at youth clubs and have a programme in place for children's holiday clubs.

Matt Day, Project Co-ordinator for The Barnabas Sports Trust said:

"This is our fourth quiz night and the most successful yet. We hope to run them on a more regular basis and build up a following of teams. We are particularly thankful to Torquay United for allowing us to use their premises and supporting us in this event."
